PORTLAND, Ore. - In a hard-fought, back-and-forth, action-packed game, the Puget Sound Loggers just couldn't find a way to win, falling to the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 66-60, in the Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Semi-Final on Wednesday night in Portland, Ore.
In the first half, it was Logger guards leading the way as juniors Ryan DeLong (Milton, Wash./Fife) and Taylor Marsh (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) each made three from downtown for nine points apiece. As a team, the Loggers were eight-for-16 from behind-the-arc to give them the nine-point halftime lead, 37-28.
Int he second period, both squads had a hard time getting warm but the Pios eventually found their shot to pull ahead of the Loggers. After shooting 53.8-percent in the fiest half,t he Loggers shot just 28.1-percent in the seocnd half as the Pios got the win, 66-60.
The Loggers were led in scoring by 13 points from DeLong. Marsh finished with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore forward Jason Foster (Tacoma, Wash./Foss) chalked up 10 points.
The Pios were led by 17 points and 11 reboudns from Joey Toboni. Thomas Tillery finished with 12 while Jeff Christensen added 10 points.
The Loggers must know wait until Sunday night to find out if they can anr an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
