Freshman Caitlin McGrane dominated the women's 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.79, and sophomore Risa Allen came in first in the long jump with a distance of 4.98m. Allen also placed second in the triple jump, while fellow sophomore Karen Chase placed second in the shot put.
Coming in second for the javelin throw was freshman Lindsay Denman, with fellow Logger teammates following close behind, placing third and fifth in the competition. UPS looked strong in team competition, placing first in the 4x100 and the medley, and coming in second for the 4x400 meter relay.
The Logger men came out with speed at the UPS Open, starting with junior Pete Van Sant. He won the 200 meter dash with a blazing time of 22.75. UPS also came in first in the 4x100 meter relay and men's distance medley.
Jumps and strength events were mostly Logger dominated. Senior Brian Kramer took second in the high jump, leaping 1.90m, and placed first in triple jump with 13.34m. Sophomore AJ Middleton, junior Steve Palmer and junior Russ Stansberry swept the shot put competition, going 1-2-3 in the circle. Sophomore Greg Bailey also showed off some strength placing second in the discus throw and third in the hammer throw.
With young talent and strength, the UPS track team next heads to Stanford, Cali. for the Stanford Invitational.
